What Is Severe Driving?

Grease Monkey recommends changing your oil according to the specifications in your vehicle owner's manual.  Most owner's manuals have a schedule for "Normal" and "Severe" driving conditions. Normal driving conditions are defined primarily as highway driving on paved roads in dust-free environments. If your driving habits include any of the following, the oil change interval recommended for your vehicle will probably be defined under Severe driving conditions in your owner's manual:

Stop-and-go or city driving
Trips of under 10 miles
Dusty driving conditions
Extremely cold weather
Idling for long periods
Carrying a heavy load or towing a trailer
